About Jas Milam, MAAT
 

Jas Milam is a native Chattanoogan who lives on Missionary Ridge. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1983 with a concentration in early childhood development and studio art. Jas received her Masters degree in Art and Art Therapy from Saint Mary of the Woods College in 2010. She served as an Allied Arts’ teaching artist and has designed and taught programs for Hunter Museum, Chattanooga Parks and Recreation and the Hamilton County school system. She is a former board member of AVA and has been nominated for Tennessee Woman Artist of the Year.

Jas currently sees individuals - children, teens and adults - at her office/studio, DAILY PRACTICE, 1322 Dodds Avenue, across from Barking Legs. She also facilitates art therapy groups at local treatment centers (Solace, Serenity Center and FOCUS Healthcare) with addicts, alcoholics and women with disordered eating. She provides art therapy at TC Thompson Hospital to Hatches' Kids - pediatric cancer patients. At The Center for Mindful Living she conducts art therapy groups and daylong workshops on rotating topics. Jas brings over 25 years of personal recovery into her work and has experience with learning disabilities, divorce/loss, codependency, relationship addiction, parenting and the family system.

Jas believes in the healing inherent in the creative process and makes art that draws on both religious and secular imagery. Jas is currently making altar art; most recently large 4’x8’ abstract Chapel paintings.
