We are excited to introduce a new series of classes that combines an art history lesson with a fun and meaningful hands-on art project. Looking back on contemporary art history there are certain artists that define a period, a movement, a medium, or a style. Familiarity with these artists and their work enriches both the artist and the non-artist’s understanding of and appreciation of art. This artistic intelligence provides a fundamental context in which to view and/or make art. In this 4 week workshop, we will do both. Each week participants will learn about the life and work of one influential artist through PowerPoint presentations, followed by a hands-on art project related to the featured artist. All materials are provided; bring your own sack dinner or snack if you wish.
This is a great way to start off your new year!
The first four artists that the well-educated artist and art student will learn about are:
Week 1: Piet Mondrian | de stijl movement, hard edge painting
Week 2: Alexander Calder | mobiles
Week 3: Joseph Cornell | assemblage
Week 4 – Georgia O’Keefe | watercolor flower paintings
