There are spoken and unspoken agreements made by people in recovery about how to benefit from the support group format. These include the importance of confidentiality, avoiding cross talk and triggers and how to recognize projection and rescuing urges. This six weeks PaintED will explore the reasons for support group structure through art making projects about boundaries, containment, the role of sponsors and the victim triangle.
Come experience for yourself the whys and wherefores of navigating recovery from disordered eating, codependency and other addictions. We will use a variety of 2 and 3D materials to experience healthy support groups and dynamics in a fun and creative way.
1 confidentiality
2 cross talk, interrupting, talking over
3 rescuing for codependents ; sit with discomfort instead
4 projection and how it works; the healing of owning your “stuff”
5 powerlessness – “can’t not”
6 unmanageability – “how’s that working for you”
