Working With Teens
Art therapy is often a good fit for teens who like art. It may also be a good fit for teens who may not be able to “talk” about it – school, divorce, social anxiety, body image stuff, gender questions or any other growing pains. I use psycho educational art therapy approaches to support teens in becoming who they are in a safe container – in person or on Zoom. My commitment when working with minors is to keep confidential EVERYTHING a teen tells me. This builds trust for safety which is necessary for healing. However if a teen tells me that they are being hurt; or if they say they are planning to hurt themselves or another, I will get a parent involved in seeking the appropriate intervention. I also work with a number of other professionals – psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists to whom I may refer your teen for testing, possible medicine and different types of therapy. I really like working with teens and appreciate the trust you put in me and your teen to find their way through art.
Ongoing Groups
FRIDAY MORNING: On-going art therapy group
This weekly art therapy group meets Friday mornings from 10am – 12:30pm. This is an art therapy group for people in third stage recovery; people who have done therapy, survived devastating loss, found freedom from addictions (2+ years) and unhealthy relationships… and still want more. This summer we will spend some time with numerology and printmaking! Participants use art methods, materials and assignments to explore transpersonal issues, esoteric and metaphysical topics, spirituality and meaning in a safe and supportive environment.

MONDAY AFTERNOON: TAROT Study group – UPDATED
TAROT STUDY GROUP – The Major Arcana Embodied
We have completed our first pass through the Major Arcana from the Tarot (Cards 0-XXI), coloring and studying the oversized cards (from BOTA) and their symbolism from a Jungian viewpoint. For this class you will need to purchase your own deck – specifically the Rider/Waite deck illustrated by Pamela Coleman-Smith (the yellow deck with The Magician on the cover.) My favorite hippie stores in Chattanooga that carry this deck are All Things Groovy on Frazier Avenue and Ritual and Remedy on Dayton Boulevard. We will begin learning about how the Major Arcana have already been at work in our own lives through art projects; one per week designed to bring us into an awareness of the general and personal lessons embodied in all 22 cards. Art explorations will include collage, drawing, painting, soapstone carving, beading and more. You do not need art training or talent to benefit from this group! and we are accepting new members at this time (!) so even if you missed coloring the cards you can start here. This is not a time to do readings or give advice – we are looking at the Tarot through Jungian eyes and applying its lessons to our own spiritual and emotional development. If you are interested in joining please call me at (423)322-2514 to register. There is a one time materials fee of $100 to cover all art supplies and a $35/week cost for group. I am looking for people who can commit to the whole series – all 22 weeks. I understand everyone might need to miss once or twice for illness or scheduled out of town trips but I will ask you to commit to the whole series for the sake of continuity and planning. For more info visit my website at jasmilam.com and/or see some of the examples below of possible projects. Small group size so you better register if you are interested in joining us!
