Working With Teens

Art therapy is often a good fit for teens who like art. It may also be a good fit for teens who may not be able to “talk” about it – school, divorce, social anxiety, body image stuff, gender questions or any other growing pains. I use psycho educational art therapy approaches to support teens in becoming who they are in a safe container – in person or on Zoom. My commitment when working with minors is to keep confidential EVERYTHING a teen tells me. This builds trust for safety which is necessary for healing. However if a teen tells me that they are being hurt; or if they say they are planning to hurt themselves or another, I will get a parent involved in seeking the appropriate intervention. I also work with a number of other professionals – psychologists, psychiatrists and therapists to whom I may refer your teen for testing, possible medicine and different types of therapy. I really like working with teens and appreciate the trust you put in me and your teen to find their way through art.

MONDAY AFTERNOON: Tarot group
Join us as we color the Major Arcana from the classic Tarot… all 22 cards starting with The Fool and ending with The World. We will use watercolor pencils to study the symbolism, colors and traditional meaning of one card per week. You do not need any experience with art or the tarot to gain an appreciation for the metaphor and life lessons illustrated by Pamela Colman Smith in the Rider Waite deck. This group meets on Mondays from 2:30-3:30 pm. There is a one-time supply fee of $75 (includes oversized cards to color, a set of Staedtler watercolor pencils and a guidebook) and a weekly fee of $20. This is not designed as a time for therapy or readings – it is for students of the art and symbolism that is deeply embedded in cultures worldwide. Email [email protected] if you wish to participate so there will be enough materials available. Ongoing since Monday, March 16th, 2020
