Weekend Workshops

Abstract Expressionist Painting

an art experience in self-expression
for teens & adults

Paint on a big surface with lots of acrylic paint in this day-long workshop. Abstract studies and some sketching will prepare participants to express themselves on a 5' by 2' canvas. This day will include a brief history of abstract art and lots of painting, so wear old clothes (acrylic paint does not wash out) and bring a lunch. Some things can only be “said” abstractly!

Each corresponds to specific color vibrations and our seven energy centers are all tied in to the hues of the rainbow. He, She, We

an integrating art experience
for men and women

Carl Jung taught that we all have an animus or anima as part of the make up of our psyches. In this weekend workshop men and women will explore their masculine and feminine sides while working with clay and metaphor. A culminating project representing this he/she relationship will allow participants the opportunity to integrate these two aspects of themselves.

Shadow Boxes

a sculptural art experience
for teens & adults

Using a mixed media assemblage process and thoughtful introspection it is possible to make visible and name our darker sides. The more we look and involve ourselves in the creation of these shadow boxes, the more we dredge out into the light the very parts of self that we need to see. A fascinating and transformative look at who we really are will result in a personal and powerful piece of sculpture.

Amulet/Fetish

the power and vibe of hand-made

Can you make your own luck? Do rabbit’s feet and voodoo dolls work? A tradition of spirit-imbued art has survived from the witch doctor to the medicine woman to the artist. Charms and symbols are found in every culture and religion and continue to fascinate modern man. After studying the amulets and fetishes of several groups (both Christian and non) we will make our own pocket or palm pieces from mixed media including stone, beads, cloth and twine. Feel free to bring any special object that you wish to include in your personal amulet.

On the Mark

a drawing workshop for teens and adults

Drawing, sketching, line quality, un-drawing, scratching, erasing, fluid, hesitant and jagged marks imply the hand of the artist and convey huge amounts of information to the viewer. During this day-long drawing workshop proper and innovative use of pencils, pens, markers and stylluses will be explored. Workshop participants will then use a combination of drawing media and techniques to produce a finished piece of original art. Drawings may be abstract, representational or copies of magazines. You may wish to bring in favorite personal photos.
